Getting Ready for Summer

We are all waiting for the warm weather and COVID to take a back seat to summer in Minocqua. This is a busy time for us as we prepare our rental cabin, Big Pine, for our summer guests. Every year, we try and make improvements to the cabin so that our guests can have the best experience possible.

This was a busy winter for us.  We got our new pup, Tack, in December.  Our older Labrador, Callie, suffered some health issues so we decided to get her a brother so Bruce could have a hunting buddy this fall.  Yes, puppies are a lot of work!  We had forgot about that!

Callie tolerates (barely) Tack’s enthusiasm.  Callie is probably looking for some peace and quiet in her remaining months.  But Tack is the Messerschmidt to Callie’s B-29, so we find closed gates and doors are important to giving Callie the respite she deserves.

He’s certainly bold, birdy and just a little belligerent.  He loves to walk in the woods especially at our cabin.  We own over 10 acres of property across the road with a path winding through it.  He finds the pigeons we plant, AND the deer poops we don’t.  He loves to retrieve bumpers and sticks in the woods along with socks, and underwear—some with more enthusiasm than others.   We signed him up for swim lessons at our local pet store which has a large pool.  He is now ready for Lake Shishebogama and is swimming in there now even with the cold temps.

We own over 10 acres of property across the road with a path winding through and it’s a great walk with the dogs. Warning… ticks are here even this early in the season. Last time we were up, Tack flushed up his first grouse. We have trail cams that have captured lots of wildlife. Bear, coyote, fox, and deer of course.

We are looking forward to another summer and making Big Pine part of our guests summer memories.
